Things to do in Kodaikanal

Green Valley View: Most hill stations have a viewpoint. Kodaikanal has its best and it is the Green Valley View, also known as Suicide Point. The place is already stunning. It becomes more magnificent to reach there because of the way you need to follow, you will also find small local shops offering products and even homemade chocolates. It is a trek to this viewpoint offering the best view one can of the city. The view from the point is mesmerizing at the very least. 

1. Kodai Lake

This place is a heaven for those willing to go on an adventure trip to Kodaikanal. Kodai Lake, also called Kodaikanal Lake is not a natural lake but a man-made one. The shape of the lake is of a star. The area that the lake is spread in is 60 acres. Activities that people can enjoy doing here are horse riding, boating, cycling and even angling, and this is not even the best part, the best part of visiting the lake is the views as it sits at a height of over 2200 meters from the sea level.

2. Bear Shola and Thalaiyar Falls

There are many falls in Kodai; however, the best ones, that are also the must-visits for the travelers are Bear Shola Falls and Thalaiyar Falls. Both the falls are absolutely different from each other. While one is not surrounded by so much green, the other is. Bears from the forest would drink water from this fall. Therefore, it is called so. While Thalaiyar waterfalls is surrounded by green everywhere. It falls from a height of 297 meters making it the highest fall in the state.

3. Coakers Walk

Constructed by Late Lieutenant Coaker on the slope of mountain, this is one of the favorite walks preferred by both locals and tourists alike. The walk had been built in the year 1872. The walk has a Telescope house which is quite popular and a must watch for everyone on an adventure trip or a solo trip. It is one of the best place for some photography and get some good pictures for your social media.

4. Temples in Kodai

If you are religious and like to visit the religious places of every city you visit, there are a few temples that you must visit in Kodaikanal. The temples are Kurinji temple, and Subhramanya temple.

5. Churches

Kodai also has a number of churches that you can pay a visit to. Christ the King Church which is over a century old, La Salette Church, and Lutheran Church. All of these churches are visited by the locals and considered holy.

6. Fairy Falls

All waterfalls are beautiful, and we can’t deny the fact. Fairy Falls is one of the most beautiful waterfalls that Kodaikanal hill station has. The breathtaking beauty makes it a favorite picnic spot for many. Adventure trip is never complete without visiting this spot in Kodai.

7. Trekking

10. Pine Forest

One of the best preserved heritages in town, Kodaikanal’s Pine Forest is the most visited place by tourists. The nature shows its extreme beauty when you are here. The pine trees in the forests are worth spending time with. Capturing photos here is one activity that you should not miss.

How to Reach Kodaikanal

You can visit Kodaikanal by all ways of transport; road, rail and air. By road, you can catch any of the Tamil Nadu STC buses from nearby cities such as Chennai, Madurai, Bengaluru, and Tirupur.

The railway station that is the nearest is Kodai Road. The distance from the railway station to Kodaikanal is 100 kilometers approximately.

The nearest airport is either Madurai at a distance of 120 kilometers or Trichy which is at a distance of 150 kilometers.

Best Time to Visit Kodaikanal

It is usually believed that Winters and Summers are the best time of the year to visit Kodaikanal. Winters are cold but the mercury does not drop below 7 degree Celsius. The season from October to June is the best time to visit Kodaikanal.
