Popular as one of the 12 Jyotirlinga Shrines, Bhimashankar boasts of its religious importance. The name of the place has a story. According to Mythology, during a battle between Lord Shiva and demon Tripurasura, Bhima River evaporated. After the demon was defeated and reduced to ashes, Lord Shiva’s sweat helped the river to get back its water flow. In short, it was revived. The place got its name owing to this river Bhima. Located in a village named Bhorgiri, it also falls in the Shyadri range of Maharashtra. The elevation at which this hill station is situated is 3250 feet. The hill station is covered by rainforest. Therefore, you will see the place is covered in lush greenery. If you have to consider its distance from high tech cities, it is closest to Pune. It is 100 kilometers from the city. If one wants to take a car to Bhimashankar from Pune, one can reach in two hours at max. The distance from Mumbai is 223 kilometers making it a 4 hours’ drive from the city. From Nashik, the distance is 205 kilometers and makes it an ideal weekend getaway from there too. The distance of Bhimashankar from the capital city Delhi is 1421 kilometers.

Budget

A two-day trip to Bhimashankar will cost you Rs 8000. This is the minimum amount that you must be ready with. The price will vary depending on several factors. If you are traveling from Delhi, of course, you will have more expenditure in terms of travel. A few others may want to spend their time in a luxurious manner in the hill station. There is no luxury without money. So, Rs 8000 is the minimum while the maximum amount can go up to Rs 20000 for two days. Are you planning on a solo trip? 1. Bhimashankar Temple

Being a religious place, you can’t miss out on the temples there. One of the most popular being Bhimashankar temple. It is one among those 12 Jyotirlinga shrines in the country. The temple is said to be built in the 13th century. Within the walls of the temple, you can find carvings of Buddha.

2. Bhimashankar Wildlife Sanctuary

Spread across an area of 120-kilometer square, this sanctuary was opened for the protection of giant Indian squirrels. Later, it became the house of several mammals and birds. If you are seeking for an adventure trip, this sanctuary definitely makes one for you. This sanctuary was opened in the year 1984 and since then, people have been visiting this place for experiencing the thrill of seeing rare species of animals.

3. Hanuman Lake

How to Reach Bhimashankar?

Although a tinsel town, Bhimashankar is connected with many cities. The route that people prefer to travel short distances is by bus or taxi. There are regular buses going to and fro. You can pick one and set on your journey if it is a weekend getaway with friends from nearby places.

If it isn’t a weekend getaway and traveling from distant, trains are the best. The nearest railway station is the Kamshet railway station. From Kamshet, you cover a distance of 90 kilometers in an hour and a half to 2 hours by road. Most of the major cities in India have railway stations. It will be convenient for everyone to travel.

Suppose, you want a quicker mode of transport, there is nothing like air travel. The nearest airport being Pune, you can travel at your convenience. Once you reach Pune, you can hire a commercial cab or vehicle for your journey to Bhimashankar. Make it an adventurous adventure trip like never before.

Best Time to Visit Bhimashankar

If you are planning to make a family trip and visit only the temple there, you can visit the city at any time of the year. You won’t have any issues with the weather. It can be a little inconvenient for trekkers though. It is advisable for trekkers to plan an adventure trip during winters or from November to February. Even Monsoon is preferred by trekkers.
